Montecristo
cigars were launched in 1935 by the H. Upmann factory, as a tribute
to the Count of Monte Cristo the cigar smoking hero of Alexandre Dumas's
novel. Montecristo first
appeared in just five sizes : No. I II III IV V. Size "A"
and Especiales were added in the beginning of 1970's. They are generally
milder than Cohiba and have a characteristic aroma, created by storing
leaves in a special type of cedar wood box.
